The Maxville Chamber of Commerce has launched a Banner Campaign to show the Scottish heritage of the village. Families or individuals can sponsor a banner designed to show the heritage of their own clan tartan. The banners will be displayed on the hydro poles on major streets in Maxville, including Main Street, Mechanic Street West, and Fair Street, which leads to the fairgrounds and the home of the Highland Games.

This an opportunity for the community to create pride in a family name and tartan" Chamber Past President Carma Williams said as she launched the program in 2003. "And no one should feel left out because their name doesn't seem Scottish. There are official tartans for names you'd never think of." Danskin's Scottish Shop on Main Street has reference books available to help anyone determine what their official family tartan is.

Most of the banner locations sold out in 2003, but a few are available for 2004. Sponsoring a banner costs $395 which covers the cost of production. The tartans will stay up during the tourist season, from May to September. You can order a banner, or get more information about the Banner Campaign, by contacting:

Carma Williams 527-1438
Julia Danskin 527-2037
Linda Fraser 527-2572

The first contributor was a supporter of the RCAF, who wanted to make sure the contribution of veterans from the Maxville area was recognized in the project. As a result, the air force banner was the very first to go up.
